Siae, the Italian collecting society, opens to copyleft

After a short negotiation, lead by Ermanno Pandoli, Siae, the only Italian collecting society, has accepted to start, in collaboration with Free hardware foundation and Liberius, an Italian version of the Dutch pilot by Creative Commons Netherlands and Buma/Stemra.

Siae hasn’t yet published an official version of the news, but we have an explicit authorization to spread an agreed press release.

We’ll try to extend the project to every typology of works (music, audio, video, texts, software etc.) and to every “some rights reserved” license (not only Creative Commons ones).

We have started a public debate through a mailing list and a wiki on the network Frontiere Digitali.

After few hours, we have some interesting partners: Beatpick, Fiordiluna icecreams (the first Italian organic-fair-shop that diffuses copyleft music without paying a collecting society), Wikimedia Italia, Jamendo
